OUR PROCESS
Hours On Average. Per Mix.
There are no shortcuts to a quality mix. Depending on the project, we can spend an average of 10–12 hours working through the details of a song.
Every Project Is Different.
The steps below are included when applicable. We don't force a song through a cookie-cutter process. We listen to what the record actually needs.
From Tracks To A Finished Mix.
Session Preparation
We prepare the session for professional mixing, including conversion to 24-bit / 96 kHz when appropriate for the project.
Track-by-Track Cleanup
Unwanted noise, silence, timing issues, clicks, pops and other distractions are addressed so the mix starts with clean, usable tracks.
Vocal & Track Tuning
Vocal and instrumental tuning is handled when needed, with the goal of improving the performance while keeping the character of the artist intact.
MIDI & Sound Selection
MIDI parts can be evaluated, layered, replaced or assigned new sounds when the original choice isn't serving the record.
Re-Amping
Bass and guitar parts can be re-amped or processed into separate tracks when additional tone, flexibility or control is needed.
Drum Enhancement
Drum sounds can be reinforced, thickened or replaced when necessary to give the rhythm section the impact the song requires.
Arrangement Development
When appropriate, we can create arrangement alternatives and present them to the artist for approval before making those changes part of the mix.
Mixing & Processing
Compression, EQ, effects and other processing are applied with the goal of creating balance, clarity, depth, impact and a cohesive finished record.
Basic Mastering
The final stage includes EQ, compression, limiting and audio analysis to prepare the finished mix for the next stage of your release.
The Details Matter.
Instrument Balance
Making sure every important element has its place without competing for the same space.
Definition
Helping vocals, drums, bass and instruments remain clear and identifiable in the finished mix.
Energy
Preserving the impact and emotion that made the song worth recording in the first place.
Depth & Dimension
Using level, EQ, compression and effects to create a three-dimensional listening experience.
Playback
A mix needs to work beyond the studio monitors — on headphones, speakers, cars and everyday systems.
Your Record
Technical decisions should ultimately serve the artist, the song and the sound you're trying to create.
Recording At Home Is One Thing. Finishing The Record Is Another.
Today's technology makes home recording more accessible than ever. Musicians, producers, hobbyists and podcasters can create incredibly detailed recordings from their own spaces.
But a collection of good recordings doesn't automatically become a competitive mix.
Getting a professional result requires experience, critical listening, the right monitoring environment, the right tools and a lot of time making decisions that aren't always obvious while you're creating the song.
That's where Studio 757 comes in.
Musicians First. Engineers Too.
We understand the DIY approach because we've lived it. Studio 757 combines the perspective of musicians with trained, experienced audio engineering to help take your recording from where it is to where you want it to be.
You Make The Music.
We'll Help Finish It.
